It could have turned into a lot of hot air and little substance, but Møre Trafo nailed it and managed to land the seminar in a very useful way, both technically and socially.

Calm Between Storms – Top Technical Seminar in Smooth Sailing

“We were lucky with the timing between two fierce storm periods in Skagerrak with worrying wave heights. Our entire boat trip took place in calm seas, and in Kiel we were greeted by brilliant sunshine and temperatures above freezing that gave a wonderful sense of spring,” says Sales and Marketing Manager at Møre Trafo, Ivar Lifjeld, about the technical seminar on board Color Line Magic from February 1 to 3.

Good mix

Ivar says there was a good mix of grid companies, contractors, industry and suppliers taking part. This year’s talks covered topics like overheating in hidden connections, transformer oils, substation monitoring, gas-free switchgear and solar parks.

Solar Cells

Solar farms in particular, presented by Vebjørn Sortebekk from Føie AS, really hit home with the challenges they create for our power grid, which was originally built for one-way feed-in. In Norway, many solar farms are now planned in typical sizes from 4–8 megawatts. This was unthinkable just a few years ago, but with today’s power prices we see that new ways of producing electricity are becoming profitable.

Kahoot on the Presentations

At the technical seminar there are three themed presentations split between Wednesday and Thursday morning. Then it’s time to see what you remember from the talks with Kahoot questions based on the presentations. There are great prizes for those who have paid attention, and plenty of praise for the Kahoot generals, Møre Trafos District Managers Ole-Christian Linstad and Tore Tangen.

Great atmosphere

Thursday starts with the suppliers presenting their latest news, and then it’s time to go ashore for cheerful socializing. Many headed to Kieler Bryggeri to taste local brews, pretzels, and enjoy songs from Ulf Sørbø in Maxeta. That kind of thing really lifts the mood.

Without food and drink, the heroes don’t function.

Attractive Arena

With its technical seminars, Møre Trafo has managed to create an attractive arena for grid companies, contractors, industry and suppliers. After the final presentation on Thursday, there will be a gala dinner and training for Oslo Havn.
