Most of us have felt it: When the signals from your balance system don’t match what you see and sense, total confusion kicks in. Your brain gets too many unexpected signals. And then it happens: seasickness.
“On the outbound trip to Kiel we eventually hit some waves around 8–10 meters, but everyone was fresh and ready for the morning meeting with the suppliers and the presentation of new products after breakfast the next day. The return trip was smooth and calm,” says Sales & Marketing Manager Ivar Lifjeld about the 15th technical seminar in the series.
Despite a turbulent start for some, it turned into another successful seminar with 60 participants from 30 companies, split between 18 people from the suppliers and the rest from the customer side, a mix of grid owners, contractors, and a few from the industrial sector.
The format is the same for the technical seminars with social activities, networking, three technical talks on the outbound trip and three on the return trip.
Pixii, which last year was named Norway’s fastest-growing technology company with its energy storage, talked about batteries in the distribution grid, the Norwegian electrical wholesaler Berggård Amundsen explained the benefits of coil compensation that removes the “foam on the beer” and frees up more room for active power in the grid, the contractor Laje addressed the challenges of large swings in workload, and the grid company Glitre presented a project on environmentally friendly development to meet the demands the green transition places on value creation across the entire industry.
“At this technical seminar we also brought along our almost brand-new product and design managers for transformers and substations,” says Lifjeld.
They presented topics such as how load and temperature affect transformer lifetime, and the use of new materials in substations that extend service life by more than six years.
Product and Design Manager Substations, Christoffer Westlie, covered “Sustainable Solutions – Navigating Toward the Prefabricated Substations of the Future”.
Product and Design Manager Transformers, Kyrre Søholt, covered “Load, temperature and service life for transformers, automatic voltage regulation”.
This year the seminar started on Wednesday 31 January with arrival in Oslo on Friday 2 February. With its technical seminars, Møre Trafo has created an attractive arena for grid companies, contractors, industry and suppliers. After the final presentations on Thursday, there is always a gala dinner when the course is set for Oslo Harbor.
“We get very good feedback on our seminars, and that is very nice,” says Ivar Lifjeld.
Every summer we give young people the chance to gain work experience with us. For some, this is their very first encounter with working life, and we believe it is important to give young people a good start.
