New super machine cuts steel like butter

“The new fiber laser cuts parts from steel and metal plates up to 25 millimeters thick,” explains Fred Anton Alvestad, Technical Manager at Møre Trafo.
Much Faster
The fiber laser replaces a 20-year-old mirror laser machine. The new machine does the job about 2.5 times faster than the old one. It also uses less energy and gas.

Increase Efficiency
“We’re still training on the new fiber laser, but we strongly believe it will be a very good investment to streamline production of parts for transformers and substations,” says Fred Anton Alvestad.

Ready for Replacement
Møre Trafo faces strong demand for its products at a time when a lot is being electrified. In the first quarter of this year, Møre Trafo had a record order intake. According to CEO Runar Tandstad, the biggest challenge now is to increase production capacity, and that is why Møre Trafo is strongly focused on investing in new and more efficient machines – and new buildings. And in a high-cost country like Norway, you need a high degree of automation to stay competitive on price.
“With our new investments we want to increase production and at the same time renew our machinery. Some of our most important machines are over 30 years old and ready for replacement,” says Technical Manager Fred Anton Alvestad.
