Production at our new substation factory is underway – one month ahead of schedule
Factory Manager Marcin Gården with Ragnar Oddsson from Raha Consult and Møre Trafo CEO Runar Tandstad
In October, we started production at our new substation factory in Sykkylven, one month ahead of schedule. The modern factory will nearly double annual production from 650 to 1,200 substations, with more efficient work processes and better production flow.
The new factory adds to the existing substation factory and is a key investment in expanding production at Møre Trafo. Production is gradually ramping up toward Christmas, and we expect capacity to increase by around 50 percent during January.
From Traditional Production to Better Flow
The new factory is set up for production-line manufacturing of more standardized substations. A more structured production flow and modern work processes make it easier to use both machinery and employees’ expertise effectively.

For Plant Manager Marcin Gården, this is a natural continuation of his work with Lean and continuous improvement. He has previously worked in production development and Lean at companies including Ekornes, MOWI and Jets, and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
— We’re not just building a new factory, but a whole new way to manufacture. With a large factory floor, new layouts in several departments and entirely new internal logistics, we’re laying the foundation for the future of production. The next step is to implement Just-in-Time and create an even better flow throughout the factory. The major changes are complete. From now on, it’s about improving the system, step by step, every single day,
Marcin Gården, Factory Manager at Møre Trafo
Two Factories That Complement Each Other
While the new factory will handle standard products on production lines, the existing factory will have more capacity for special orders and customized solutions.
This division of work organizes production more effectively. Standard products get an efficient, structured production line, while custom products retain the flexibility they require.
— We will draw on the strengths of both factories. Organizing standard production more efficiently also gives us more flexibility to handle variations and customization in the existing factory. It is a good solution for both us and our customers,
Marcin Gården, Factory Manager at Møre Trafo
Once the new factory reaches full capacity, production will move to two shifts.
Strengthening Norwegian Production and Supply Reliability
The investment in a new substation factory is also a key part of our strategic focus on “Made in Norway.” All our production takes place in Norway, and the new factory strengthens our ability to supply Norwegian-made substations for an evolving power grid.
Local production helps retain industrial expertise and strengthens preparedness and security of supply in the Nordic power system.
With the new factory up and running, we continue to develop production, improve workflows, and build a production environment ready for future needs.
