Møre Trafo rehired a former employee to bring in a new and skilled Product and Design Manager for transformers. Kyrre worked for nearly ten years at Møre Trafo before he left in 2021, then as a design engineer in the product development department he now heads.

Needed a break
“I was pretty burned out and tired, and felt I needed a break and a slightly calmer everyday life that was easier to combine with the studies I’m still doing. So I chose to become a teacher and teach part-time at the Technical College in Ålesund,” says the power engineering graduate, who is now back at Scandinavia’s largest manufacturer of distribution transformers and fully assembled substations.
Head Hunter
The recruitment agency, led by former AaFK coach Ivar Morten Normark, contacted Kyrre when Møre Trafo needed someone to take over Kårstein Longva’s position. Kårstein is one of the leading transformer experts in Norway and the Nordics, so there are big shoes to fill after Kårstein, who has been Head of Design and Product at Møre Trafo since 1983.
“Kårstein will continue two days a week for a while so that I, among other things, can finish my master’s thesis, and we can get a smooth transition,” says Kyrre.
Master’s Thesis on Transformers
The master’s thesis looks at so-called no-load losses in transformers. These are losses in the transformers that occur regardless of load. It’s about reducing the losses, making better calculations so you hit the target more accurately and can more easily find and correct deviations.
Great freedom
– Møre Trafo is a solid company, with many interesting tasks and a lot of freedom. If you take initiative, there are almost no limits to what or how much you can do. It feels good to be back. What I really appreciate here is that you can follow the product through every step, from design until it is finished. Møre Trafo does all the work in-house, and there are very few purchased parts, says Kyrre, who worked as an energy fitter at Sandøy Energi before he trained as a power engineer.
Active climber
He also looks for excitement in his free time. At 36, he is still an active climber and a member of the climbing club in Ålesund, where he used to be heavily involved in club activities.
“Exciting, rewarding and really fun. When you climb, it’s completely all‑consuming. What drives me is first and foremost the thrill and always being able to become a better climber,” says Kyrre.

Cycling to Sykkylven
On his marital status, Kyrre says he is “fairly recently married”. He is from Harøya and now lives at Skåthaugen in Ålesund. From there it takes ten minutes by car, or just over 20 minutes by bike plus ferry to get to work. The sporty new Product Manager at Møre Trafo is a big fan of biking to and from work.
