Møre Trafo Strengthens Its Focus on Product Development

Hallbjørn has worked at Møre Trafo several times throughout his career. He joined the company in 1992, first in the mechanical department and later in design engineering. After earning a degree in mechanical engineering in Ålesund, he spent several years in Transformer Product Development at Møre Trafo and 16 years as an operations engineer at Ekornes before returning to Møre Trafo in 2024 – once again in the product development department.

You have extensive experience in design and product development. What has been one of the highlights?

– When we developed the 3.15 MVA OTW 810 transformers around 2006 for delivery to Dalekraft. These are large transformers that are also used in wind turbines, among other applications. It was a major development project and exciting to be part of.

You are now stepping into the role of Head of Product Development. What motivates you?

– I enjoy working with engineering and design. I will now lead two development teams: transformers and substations. I want to build an even stronger, more unified environment, focusing on the synergies between the teams and aligning our efforts even more closely.

Hallbjørn also highlights his background in mechanical design as an important part of the expertise he brings to the role.

And quality and reliable solutions are central to what he wants to achieve.

What do you see as the key opportunities for product development going forward?

– We continuously improve the efficiency of both product development and production. We can standardize more, giving us greater capacity to develop custom products for customers who need them. This will shorten our lead times, improve delivery reliability, and deliver better results for our customers.

On the product side, he also sees exciting opportunities in digitalization and remote control.

– There is a strong focus on remote control of substations and RTU solutions.

How important is customer collaboration in developing good products and solutions?

– Working with our customers is essential to delivering the best solutions. Our customers know best how our products perform, from installation to operation. We place great importance on maintaining an open dialogue with customers and the market to support effective product development.

What do you want customers to notice as Møre Trafo continues to invest in product development?

With many years of experience in engineering and product development, Hallbjørn knows the products, the technical community, and the company well. He will now use this experience to advance product development at Møre Trafo – with a focus on quality, reliable delivery, and effective customer solutions.
