Supporting Ukraine with transformers

“We are preparing four transformers that will be sent to Ukraine very soon. Ukraine is in urgent need of electrical equipment and materials after the massive destruction caused by the attacks from Russia,” says Sales and Marketing Manager at Møre Trafo, Ivar Lifjeld.

Grateful

Møre Trafo has received grateful feedback that the equipment will be put to very good use. The transformers sent to Ukraine are transformers that can only be used in emergency situations, and they represent a value of around NOK 400,000.

Møre Trafo Will Contribute

“We heard on NRK that in addition to weapons, Ukraine also needed electrical equipment, so we gathered the management team at Møre Trafo to see what we could contribute. The management team was unanimous that we should give whatever we had,” says Ivar Lifjeld about the background to Møre Trafo’s donations.

Power for Thousands

The donation from Møre Trafo is two 100 kVA and two 200 kVA transformers with a voltage of 11000/415 volts. The transport of the transformers to Ukraine, which can provide power distribution to many thousands of Ukrainians, is organized by DSB (Direktoratet for samfunnssikkerhet og beredskap). Schenker handles the transport, picking up the transformers from Møre Trafo and taking them on to Ukraine together with other equipment from Norwegian donors.

REN

Møre Trafo’s involvement started when they contacted REN (Rasjonell Elektrisk Nettvirksomhet), a company owned by the Norwegian grid operators where Møre Trafo is a member. Together with DSB, REN organizes the collection of equipment for power distribution to Ukraine.

“All the formalities are in place. The equipment we send is approved by the Ukrainian authorities, who have responded that this is a generous offer that meets a major need. After contacting REN, DSB and NVE, as well as various organizations, it was confirmed that these transformers have the correct primary and secondary voltages,” says Lifjeld.

The transformers were offered to Ukraine through the EU’s crisis coordination center (UCPM), which coordinates aid to Ukraine.

“We’re incredibly happy to contribute in this way. We really hope that our donation of four high-quality transformers will be useful, and that this senseless war will end as soon as possible,” says Ivar Lifjeld.
