At Gromstul outside Skien, Google is planning one of the world’s largest data centers. During the construction phase – which can last from five to ten years – you need robust, continuous power for thousands of workers and tons of infrastructure. Here, nothing waits in line.
Møre Trafo supplies six complete substations with 1,250 kVA transformers to the site, including insulated housing, switchgear, and metering cell. The substations connect to Lede’s supply grid and ensure stable power for the construction work throughout the entire building phase.
Our delivery includes six substations with 1,250 kVA transformers, plus insulated housings with switchgear and metering cells. Our customer is the local contractor Laugstol AS.
Global digital infrastructure is built in Norway, and the construction phase demands no downtime.
Google secured the roughly 2,000-decare site in 2019. The project was formally approved in 2025, with the data center scheduled to go live in 2026. In the meantime, the entire energy infrastructure is being built, with Møre Trafo supplying the critical working power.
The solution is delivered through the local contractor Laugstol AS and serves as the basic energy infrastructure for the entire construction project.

The data center represents multi-billion investments and will employ several thousand people during construction.
Møre Trafo’s delivery is part of the core infrastructure that makes the project possible.
