Hima Seafood trout facility

At Rjukan, Eyvi AS is building on behalf of Hima Seafood what will be the world’s largest land-based trout farming facility. The plant is 320 meters long, has a footprint of 27,000 square meters, and a production capacity of 8,000 tons of trout per year – equivalent to around 22 million dinners.

Møre Trafo supplies 12 oil-immersed transformers with a total capacity of 30 MVA. The delivery goes through Nettpartner and is a prerequisite for stable, safe and continuous operation of one of Europe’s most ambitious industrial projects in aquaculture.

This is a comprehensive and technically demanding delivery to a facility where stable and secure power supply is absolutely critical for operations, fish welfare, and continuous production.

The Challenge

A fish processing plant at this scale is no different from a power-hungry process plant – operations can never stop.

  • 30 MVA total capacity distributed across 12 connection points
  • Continuous operation – fish welfare requires stable power around the clock
  • Voltage Level 22,000 / 415 V – industry-standard requirements for power quality
  • Coordination with parallel deliveries – eight transformers before summer, the rest during the year

The total investment is budgeted at NOK 2.5 billion and is financed by British, Swedish, and Norwegian investors. The facility is the result of more than ten years of planning and ambitions to set new standards for sustainable land-based aquaculture.

The Solution

Tailor-Made for Industrial Aquaculture

  • 12 oil-immersed transformers
  • Performance: 2,500 kVA per transformer
  • Voltage: 22,000 / 415 V
  • Total power: 30 MVA
  • Delivery through Nettpartner

The fish farm is considering using surplus heat from Green Mountain’s data center facility at Rjukan – a facility where Møre Trafo has also delivered most of the transformers. Circular energy use between two critical industries.

The Result

  • 30 MVA delivered – Norway’s most powerful transformer delivery to aquaculture
  • 8,000 tons of trout per year – production capacity secured
  • Sustainable Circular Operation – reuse of heat between data center and fish farm

The delivery is a clear example of Møre Trafos role as a supplier of robust, future-focused solutions for critical and energy-intensive industry.

“It’s a real honor that our products help secure reliable operation in two such prominent and socially important industrial projects,” says Ivar Lifjeld.
