Møre Trafo invests in new services

Hot and cold storage with space for well over 1,000 transformers.

“Since we started up two years ago, our service center in Eastern Norway now delivers the full range of services to our clients,” says Sales and Marketing Manager at Møre Trafo, Ivar Lifjeld.

Elvia

The reason for the investment is that Møre Trafo won a contract with our largest customer Elvia AS, covering handling of, among other things, Elvia’s contingency and project transformers.

“Elvia is the main customer and accounts for most of the revenue,” says Lifjeld.

Expanding Services

The service and emergency center expands the service offering from Møre Trafo and opens the door for future expansions and/or collaboration with other players in more parts of the country.

“We expect a growing future need for service to secure a well-functioning electrical distribution grid, and we anticipate expanding the concept with possible new locations or partnerships elsewhere in the country,” says Lifjeld.

Kløfta

The service and emergency center at Kløfta, right by the E6 south of Oslo Airport, has 6,000 m² of outdoor storage, 900 m² of cold storage, 1,050 m² of heated storage and workshop, and around 475 m² of offices.

Here we stock and handle logistics for all transformers, substations, switchgear and low-voltage switchboards to be used in projects in the Elvia grid. We receive old equipment, test it and check whether it can be reused or must be scrapped.

Repairs

At the service center we also carry out simple repairs on transformers in our own workshop, and out at your site. Contractors use our services to varying degrees. We rent out some storage space to other suppliers.

The center has equipment to handle the heaviest components up to 10 tons, and its own service vehicles for work at the customer’s site.

Exciting Initiative

“This is an exciting initiative for us, and we plan to offer services to other customers as well, such as grid companies and contractors, but also industry and other businesses that operate their own transformers,” says Lifjeld.

Four employees

So far, there are four employees at the Service Center: Frank Hagen, Espen Gran, Service Manager Erland Tomtsveen, and Technical Manager Gaute Amdal.

“These guys have done an outstanding job building up the center at Kløfta into a well-functioning department that already delivers a positive contribution to our company,” says CEO of Møre Trafo, Runar Tandstad.

All four, together with the management of Møre Trafo, can now confirm that everything is in good order. A safety inspection in August concluded that there was little to point a finger at here.
