Transformers for a Historic Climate Project
Three powerful transformers that keep the slopes white from November to May
Talk to an advisor
Gausta Ski Center has invested NOK 60 million in a new snowmaking system, aiming to keep the slopes open from November to May. The system is among the largest of its kind in Norway, and sets very high demands for capacity, reliability, and stable power supply.
Møre Trafo delivered three transformers that ensure stable power supply to all 83 snow cannons. The system can produce 48,700 cubic meters of snow per day – and has the capacity to cover all 11 slopes with snow in eight to eleven days.
With these investments we get significantly better snow quality, while the capacity lets us open more slopes faster. We have taken a long-term view, both on capacity and reliability.

A modern snowmaking plant in the Gausta mountains needs far more than snow cannons and pipes.
The destination is owned by the Swedish investment company Vätterledens Invest AB, which brings together lifts, slopes, snow production, hotels and infrastructure to develop Gausta into one of Norway’s most attractive year-round destinations.
Even if full capacity isn’t used all the time, the installation is sized for the future. Møre Trafo has delivered around 20 transformers to different parts of the Gausta destination in recent years – to the ski resort, hotel, Gaustabanen and other infrastructure.
The transformers from Møre Trafo are the hidden power source that makes the entire snow production possible.

Our transformers are part of the hidden heavy lifters in the power grid. They just have to work – safely, steadily, and over time. That’s exactly the kind of installations we are built to deliver.
